Do you sometimes wish you could sleep at any time, as much as you wanted, just like a cat?
Well, you’re not alone.
While a lot of people might experience no difficulty in getting to sleep, just like cats, and experience it as naturally as any other part of life, it’s estimated that roughly a third of all adults have trouble getting a good night’s sleep. If you find difficulty getting to sleep, wake up earlier than you want, or wake up regularly during sleep, then you might find that hypnosis for insomnia and sleep issues can help you.
Could you be experiencing sleep issues?
Sleep is a vital need. We don’t entirely understand all the mechanisms of why we need sleep, though there is plenty of evidence available and we all know too well, the effects of not having enough. How it impacts on mental health such as worsening moods and increasing stress, trouble focusing or concentrating on tasks, as well as physical exhaustion which can lead to all kinds of problems throughout all the areas of your life.
If you’re not getting the 6-8 hours of sleep thats recommended each night, then it can begin to have a serious impact on your health. If you’re experiencing any of the following symptoms, there could be a sleep disorder at play:
- Difficulty falling asleep at night
- Waking up regularly during the night and having trouble getting back to sleep
- You feel anxious or worried about sleeping
- You wake up too early each day
- You have trouble getting up in the morning
- You rely on external help, such as medication and alcohol to sleep
- You feel tired, lethargic, or generally low energy during the day
- You feel more irritable, have trouble concentrating or get headaches
There are many potential causes and contributing factors to sleep disorders, and the most common of all is anxiety. Not only does anxiety cause our minds to be more active with our worries, which can keep us up at night, but the physical stress makes our bodies less comfortable, which makes it harder to get to sleep, as well.
How hypnotherapy can help you with your sleep issues
Hypnotherapy may be able to help you discover the underlying issues that are causing your sleeping problems and can help you develop the tools that better allow you to change those habits, thought patterns, or other obstacles.
One of the most common ways that hypnotherapy can do this is by inducing a state of hypnosis (consider it a kind of deep relaxation, rather than falling under a spell), which can make you naturally more suggestible. In doing this, the hypnotherapist is able to plant positive suggestions to help your mind calm down at night and to react differently to your nightly routines. This can help reduce anxiety and stress around sleep, which can make it easier to naturally drift off. Furthermore, your hypnotherapist can teach you self-hypnosis techniques which can help you continue to reinforce these suggestions at home to help you better drift off.
Some helpful techniques to get you off to a good nights rest
Download, download, download. The best thing for a clearer head is to download in a notebook while you may be sitting and relaxing after a light meal**. We often don’t stop during the day to think about all those little things we keep handing over to our busy minds to remind us later. This can cause havoc and keep those ‘loops open’. At the end of the day, a brief review of the day, and download what still needs to be done the next day can free up some space, now that its written down, and allow you to start the process of winding down.
A light meal** Sometimes its just not possible, we run on empty during the day, and by the time the evening comes, we are famished, so sometimes we tend to over eat, and mostly all the wrong, or heavier foods. If at all possible, take a few moments during the busy day to stop and replenish yourself so that by the time the evening rolls on, you are not famished and looking for food. You’re ready to enjoy a lighter meal, which goes a long way in generating a restorative sleep, waking up feeling refreshed.
